SCALES MOUND, Ill. -- Betty A. Schoenhard, 93, of Scales Mound, died at 4:29 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Midwest Medical Center, Galena.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the Scales Mound United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Patricia Allen-Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

She was born on July 10, 1918, in Shullsburg, Wis., daughter of Arthur and Aurba (Berryman) Youle. She was a graduate of Shullsburg High School, Class of 1936. She attended Bayless Business School in Dubuque.

She married Ernest "Ernie" Schoenhard on Nov. 26, 1938, in Clinton, Iowa; he preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2001.

Betty was a member of the Scales Mound United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Betty loved gardening and tending to her many flowers and plants. She was known for her expertise in jelly making and her homemade sweet rolls that she loved to share with her friends and neighbors, and her constant companion, her dog, A J. Her home was open for parties, potlucks, a good game of cards or a leisurely chat on the porch on a summer evening. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and in later years seeing pictures and hearing stories of her little great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family.

Surviving are her children, Terry (Joyce) Schoenhard, of Scales Mound, and Jeanne Des Rochers, of Edmonton, Canada; grandchildren, Ryan (Lori) Schoenhard, Andrea (Pic) Pickel, Scott (Erin) Schoenhard, Alex Schoenhard, Jen (Marty) Wright, Aimee (Shane) Cole and Nicole (Troy) Farn; and great-grandchildren, Keaton, Garrett, Sydney, Kaci, Elizabeth, Ryder and Maxim.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Robert Youle and Helen Ostrenga; a son-in-law, Chet Des Rochers; and a grandson, Jeffrey Michael Schoenhard.
