Mrs. Hattie B. Bussard, 92, of 210 Prospect St., Middletown, more recently of Homewood Retirement Center, Frederick, died Thursday, April 5, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after an illness of six weeks. She was the wife of John F. Bussard, who predeceased her April 24, 1977.
Born Aug. 15, 1891, near Myersville, Mrs. Bussard was a daughter of the late Joshua and Mary Leatherman Summers.
Mrs. Bussard was a devoted member of Zion Evangelical Church, Middletown; a member of the Sunshine Class of the Sunday school, and sang in the church choir for over 50 years.
She also was a member of Middletown Senior Citizens, queen Chapter No. 3, Order of Easter Star, Hagerstown, and the Hood College alumni association.
Mrs. Bussard attended Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pa., and was a graduate of Hood College. She taught school in Middletown in her early years.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Ruthanna) Wenzel, Frederick; one son, Dr. John W. Bossard, Fort Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren, Richard A. Wenzel Jr. of Randallstown; Dr. Robert Bossard of Venice, Fla., Dr. David Bossard of Franklin, Ind., Mrs. Janet Jordon of Little Rock Ark., and Donald Bossard, Iowa City, Iowa; and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 7, and anytime Sunday, April 8, at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. William L. Dreikorn, Mrs. Bussard's pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
