Religious Leader. He was an organizer of the Protestant Episcopal Church in America in 1785. White served as the Rector of Christ Church and St. Peter's Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 1779 until his death in 1836. In 1786 he was elected as the First Episcopal Bishop of Pennsylvania and served until his death in 1836.
