Henry J Wetlaufer, son of Henrich Wetlaufer (AKA Wettlaufer) (1811-1898) and Anna Elisabeth Römer (1810-1868), was born at sea in 1836. The family resided in New York until about 1854 when they moved from New York to Alden, McHenry county, Illinois.
During the Civil War he was a member of 8th Illinois Cavalry Company H. He enlisted as a private and mustered out of service as a Corporal on July 17, 1865. A pension application (#1189912) was filed 23 April 1897. Certificate #990121.
