The preceding note was added by Wade Shultz, the creator of the memorial. Where he got his info I do not know. Richard Brown could not have been born in Southold, NY in 1625, since the British did not settle the area until 1640.
There are some who believe this Richard Brown is the same person as the Richard Browne who was living at Southold on 11 Feb 1686-7. This Richard is speculated to have been born in England around 1629 and immigrated to the colonies around 1650.
The following info was passed on to me by a fellow Find A Graver:
February 11th is the date that Richard is reported to have put "all his property into the hands of his son-in-law, John Tuthill, in trust stipulating that he and his wife, Dorothy, should occupy his home until their deaths. This indicates his failing health. He died shortly afterward but the exact date is not known." Also, "on October 8, 1686, he was listed as one of the Lieutenants of a Foot Troop of Suffolk County Militia" which suggests that Richard passed away after that date. Therefore, a better estimate of Richard's death might be after 8 Oct 1686 vs. 11 Feb 1686. This could be helpful considering the recorded activities of the same year occurred before his passing.
See one source at https://familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/8823371 keeping in mind exact dates are pretty difficult to pinpoint, but for the fact that he was not deceased prior to 8 Oct 1686.
