1. The Southampton Town Record recorded Ralph’s death on September 22, 1658. His will had been written in July of 1658 (the original is held at E.H. Public Library, Long Island Collection).
2. Ralph did not die at Southold. This is a common assumption because he received the Haines house in Southold when he married Mary. He never lived there, but instead leased it to Reverend Young while he and Mary lived at North Sea (Southampton). North Sea was called Northampton at the time of his death there.
3. Ralph’s place of burial is unknown, but is probably Southampton or less likely, his remains were transported to East Hampton.
4. Ralph’s known children are Ralph, Alice, Samuel, Ellen and Robert and their baptisms are recorded at St. Mary’s, Ashford, Kent.
5. Ralph’s 1588 birth year has never been proven, but is a probable estimation.
Further details are provided in "Our Long Island Ancestors, the First Six Generations of Daytons in America, 1639-1807," (2016), Stephen Dayton and James Dayton).

Inscription
Birth: 1588 in ASHFORD KENT ENGLAND -Death: 22 Sep 1650 in SOUTHOLD LONG ISLAND NEW YORK -Burial: SOUTH END CEMETERY EAST HAMPTON LONG ISLAND NEW YORK. The preceding note was here when I took over the memorial & is in contradiction with the memorial's actual placement. I assume it was added later as an edit. The documents available on Family Search & Ancestry do not solve the issue. The original creator of the memorial was careful in his research & used original documents, but what those were I do not know. His specialty was 17th & 18th century burial stones.
