Emily Fields Ashbrook LEBANON, Va. Emily Fields Ashbrook, age 89, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. Born June 8, 1922, in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Wiley and Maggie Wallace Fields, and the wife of the late Guy Ashbrook. Emily was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Marshall, and Homer Fields; and four sisters, Mabel Adams, Sallie Green, Martha Burns, and infant, Dana Ruth Fields. Survivors include two sons, James "Porky" Ashbrook and wife, Betsy, Collinsville, Va., and Eddy Ashbrook and Patty Wallat, Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Paul Ashbrook and wife, Gina, Mary Margaret Martin and husband, David, John Ashbrook and wife, Maggie, and Amy Ashbrook Wilson and husband, Pete; nine great-grandchildren, Cameron Martin, Justin Sproles, Chase Martin, Corbin Martin, Emily Ashbrook, Richard McDonald, Ian Ray, Mary Elizabeth Ashbrook, and Sven Ashbrook; special nephews, Buddy Burns and Don Fields; caregiver, Lida Gross; special friends, Don and Brenda Scales. The funeral service will be conducted 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, in the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Meade, the Rev. Larry Burton, and the Rev. Vonley Pruitt officiating. Committal service and interment will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, in the West Hill Cemetery, Lebanon. Those attending are requested to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 p.m. serving as pallbearers will be great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 425, Lebanon VA 24266. The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
