Edward was the 12th child of Silas Fish Spicer and
Charlotte Wescott Spicer and the second son to bear the name Edward. His brother and name sake had been born and died in 1827 in Brownville, Jefferson county, New York.

Edward was a vetern of the Civil War having Enlisted in Company G, New York 10th Heavy Artillery Regiment on 25 Aug 1863.
Mustered out on 19 Jul 1865. He was a Private.

After the war Edward taught school for awhile and then became a very successful farmer and dairyman. Like his brother Henry he was involved in politics and served as Justice of the Peace for awhile. Edward would marry twice and father 3 children.
