Ardith A. Donovan, 88, of Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully at Mercy Medical Center on September 1, 2011.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at St. Anthony's Church. The Rev. Steven Rosonke will be officiating. Internment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. She requested that there be no wake service, but rather that you remember her in your prayers. Arrangements have been made with the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road.

She was born on January 5, 1923, in Dubuque, daughter of Harry and Frances (Schaefer) Lochner. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School.

Ardith married Alphonsus (Al) J. Donovan, Jr. on September 26, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her loving husband preceded her in death on January 26, 1983, nearly 29 years earlier.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by her entire family. She was a principled woman who lived her life according to a high standard of values and was a wonderful example to her friends and family. It was the simplest things that were important to her – who could forget her homemade chocolate chip cookies that she always had on hand for visitors. After high school she worked at the Dubuque Fire and Marine Insurance Company. Her next full time job was raising five children. As her children grew older, she sold Avon for awhile and worked part time at St. Anthony's in the school lunch program. She was an active member of St. Anthony's Parish where she did volunteer work, was a member of St. Joseph's Circle, and attended daily Mass.

Surviving are her five children: Kathy Karm and her three daughters, Kerri Noell, Melissa (Matt) Graves, and Emily Karm; Bill (Mary) Donovan and their daughter Shannon Donovan (friend Chris Kloft); Patrick Donovan; Molly David and her children Nicky (Jeremy) Astgen and Nathan David (friend Abby Hughes); and Dan Donovan (friend Sharon Rea) and his four children, Andie, Alaina, Bridget and Riley Donovan; and four great-grandchildren: Sylvie, Macie, Olivia and Mya. She is also survived by two brothers, Philip Lochner and Harrison Lochner, and two brothers-in-law, Bob Connelly and Bob Baker, as well as many nieces and nephews.
