Dorothy (Mitten) "Dottie" Berwager, 99 of Hanover, died Friday, December 29, 2017 at Hanover Hospital. She was the wife of Mark B. Berwager who died November 16, 1995. Born September 3, 1918 in Westminster, MD she was the third daughter born to the late Claude and Helen (Boylan) Mitten.

Dottie is survived by her two sons; Steven and Sydney Berwager; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and her sister, Helen Mueller. In addition to her parents and husband Mark, she was preceded in death by her daughter Starr Berwager Mehiel (2005), her granddaughter Corrina Mehiel (2017) and her siblings, Laura Weaver, Kitty Gochenauer and Buddy Mitten.

Dottie had a dynamic childhood, living at times in Westminster, Baltimore and New Windsor, MD and in Kennett Square and Chester, PA. She was a proud graduate of Westminster High School, class of 1936. After High School, she met Mark Berwager of Hanover, PA. Their mutual love for each other was strengthened by their mutual love of dancing which they enjoyed into their 70's. She married Mark on January 10, 1942 and lived the rest of her life as a resident of Hanover, PA. After retirement, she and Mark loved to travel in their RV throughout the U.S.

She was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and aunt. She loved her family, especially those who could be counted as members of the broad Mitten clan, and was a catalyst for having an annual reunion of the clan. In her presence, only praise for all things Irish was allowed. She loved sports, especially her Orioles and Colts, until their departure turned her into a Ravens fan. While devoted to her family, Dottie had a full life beyond the family.

She started her long career with the Hanover Canning Co. (now Hanover Brands) in the early 50's and steadily took on more responsibility until her retirement in 1986. She had a brief political career, successfully running for an elected seat on the Penn Township Board of Commissioners. She also enjoyed playing high school sports and playing golf which she did into her late 80's. Dottie will be greatly missed, just ask those who enjoyed her love, her company and her joy for life.

A memorial funeral liturgy, to celebrate the life of Dottie Berwager, will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 2:30pm at the Homewood Chapel at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA with Rev.
