HICKORY, May 1.--Cpl. Alfred P. Whitener, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Whitener, of Hickory, was killed in action in Germany April 15.

He had served overseas for 16 months. and for 28 months had been in the army.

Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Cpl. Gordon C. Whitener, in France, and Jacob W. Whitener of Hickory; and three sisters. Mrs. J. Louis Sigmon, of Newton, and Misses Rebecca and Mary Black Wnitener of Hickory.
