David Simon died peacefully on August 20, 2011, having lived out his eighty-seven years with honor, integrity, and dignity. His wife, Naomi, his parents, and his brother predeceased him. He leaves behind family and friends who will always remember David for his ability to see the best in everyone and to keep smiling even in tough times.
David was a native of Los Angeles and lived here most of his life. He was a graduate of Dorsey High and Northern Illinois College of Optometry.
His military service during WWII took him to Douglas, Arizona, where he was a member of the Army Air Force Band. After the war, David helped several generations of grateful patients see more clearly as a solo practitioner of Optometry in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.
A musician from a young age, David loved to play saxophone and clarinet nearly his entire life. Music was often the glue that held his life together, particularly during difficult times. He rehearsed with several Swing and Dixieland bands well into his 80s. He especially loved to entertain at family and friends' weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, and other gatherings.
A private service was held.
