Finetta L. "Nettie" Beard, 75 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield. Nettie was born in Jacksonville, IL on June 6, 1936, a daughter to Robert and Mabel Curry Garman. She married Donald Beard on August 15, 1954 in Pittsfield, IL and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1987. Nettie was the director of the Pike County Senior Citizens from 1976 through 2008. In earlier years Nettie worked at the Strauss Clothing Store and Ruble Cleaners as a seamstress and also at the Pikeland School District #10 Lunch Program. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, a member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 Auxiliary and Pittsfield Fire Department Auxiliary. She had been a Girl Scout Troop Leader and local director on the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). She enjoyed sewing, cooking, attending country music shows and taking senior's to events. She especially enjoyed weekly family dinners. Nettie is survived by her children: Donald Beard of Pittsfield; Craig (Monica) Beard of Pittsfield; Bill Beard of Quincy; Jim Beard of Pittsfield; Karen Reese and Lori Beard of Pittsfield. Seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a sister, Harriett Hull of Mendon, IL survive. She was preceded in death by brothers, Don, Frank, Carroll, and James Garman and a sister, Bobbi. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Tom Wilber officiating. Interment will be in the West Cemetery in Pittsfield. A lunch for the family will be held after the service at the Orr Hall in Pittsfield. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, August 31, 2011 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to the Pike County Health Department Home Health Service, the Pittsfield West Cemetery or charity of donor's choice.
