LaVerna Hyde was born on June 5, 1914 as the second daughter of Sadie and Charley Russell at Altoona, Kansas. She married Carl Barnett on Aug.25th. 1936 in Texarkana, Ark. He died June 16, 1983 in Wichita, Ks. Born to them were Mary Carolyn , Margaret Ann, & Phillip Russell.
Laverna attended a Beauty School in Omaha, Nebr. in the late 1930's and she worked as a Beautician in Chanute Ks. & Wichita Ks. all of her working years.
She married Gerald Wayne Hyde in 1985.
Laverna and Jerry moved to Paradise Ca. in 1987 and joined Paradise Lutheran Church in June of 1991, where she was an active Member in the Stephen Ministry program. She was also a past chairperson of the PLC Women's Stewardship Program and the "Cover Girls:" [A sewing group that makes quilts and blankets for people in need]. She also enjoyed gardening and homemaking.
As a living memorial to LaVerna, the family will be funding the Paradise Lutheran Church Bulb Garden between the Sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall of the Paradise Lutheran Church.
Laverna is survived by here husband Jerry, a son Phillip Barnett of Orlando, Florida; Daughters Mary Aquala, Seattle, Wa. area and Margaret Lawrence of Edmond's, Washington; brothers Harold Russell of Wichita, Ks. Dale Russell of Independence, Ks. and Floyd Russell of Altoona, Ks. as well as four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
