Eenke Margaretha Harms Tammen Harms was born January 13, 1861 in Fahne, Aurich, Lower Saxony Germany the daughter of Tamme Ihnen and Eenke Margaretha Harms Gastmann Tammen. Traveling steerage Eenke, her Mother and younger sister embarked for America from Bremen Germany aboard the steamship Mosel. They arrived at Castle Garden, New York, New York. USA. on September 21, 1874, and traveled to Peoria, Illinois to join her Father, and two older sisters who had arrived in the United States a few months earlier. The family eventually moved to Minonk in Woodford County, Illinois. Here she met and married Hinrich Aljes Harms February 28, 1878. They were to become the parents of twelve children. Harm Rudolfs, Harm Rudolfs, Gertje G., Tamme Ihnen, Anna Margreta, Friedrich Gerdes, all born in Illinois, and Gertje Gardels, Jelste Sekea, Tamme Hinrich, Maria Sovia, Meta Friedereka, and Jantje Emma all born in Clay county, Nebraska. In 1888 Hinrich, Meta and their four surviving Illinois born children came to Clay County Nebraska, settling in Lone Tree Township. In later years Hinrich and Meta moved into Glenvil, Nebraska where she died April 18,1928.

Although she went by Meta, and that is the name on the headstone, her name at baptism as found in the church records at Westerende-Kirchloog in Germany is Eenke Margaretha Harms Tammen.
