From the Oregonian, 31 Jul. 1939:

Two Boys Hit, One Fatally.

BEAVERTON -- Donald Alton, 15, a resident of the St. Mary Home for Boys just east of here, was injured fatally Sunday night when he and a companion were struck by an automobile on the Tualatin valley road in front of the home.

The companion, William Sauser, also an inmate of the home, was taken to St. Vincent's hospital, Portland, where attendants reported he was suffering from a head injury and shock.

The driver of the car, Robert J. McCallum, 20, of Houlton, was not held. He told Sheriff R. H. Busch that he was driving west when the boys stepped in front of his machine, apparently attempting to cross the road.

The victim was the son of Frank Alton, Gordon hotel, Portland. Sauser is the son of Victor Sauser, Parkdale.
