Betsey was the daughter of Seth Crowell and Mary Polly Baker. She married Jason Cummings April 15, 1872 in Mattapoisett, Plymouth, Massachusetts. They had no children together, but Jason had two known daughters from a previous marriage that she raised as her own, Minnie and Lucy M. Cummings.
