Jazz Bandleader. Born at Smith Square, Westminster, London, he is best remembered for his radio and television show, the "Billy Cotton Band Show", which ran throughout the 1950's and 60's, and which was always preceded by his famous call of "Wakey! Wakey!". He had two sons Ted & Bill junior, the latter went on to become head of entertainment at the BBC. Billy Cotton died in Wembley, North London. His funeral was held at Golders Green Crematorium, and his ashes were temporarily deposited at Golders Green before later being removed.
