Charles was an active musician who played violin in a band along with his brother Marion. He was served one term as Jefferson County assessor. He operated a store on his farm, just off Scotts Ridge Road, which was the cite of the McGregor Post Office, for which he was the first post master during its operation from April 12, 1893 through June 15, 1907. He was succeeded at some point by Emerson Lemen.
