Poet, chergyman, and scholar. Best known work was the song "Columbia". He was the eighth president of Yale College (1795–1817).

"The Presbyterian Mission Board established an Indian mission and school here in 1830 shortly after the Cherokees began arriving from their former homes in the SE states. In the heart of the Cookson Hills, it is one of eastern Oklahoma's prettiest spots. The mission was named for Timothy Dwight, president of Yale University."

President of Yale, Clergyman, and Author. He was the oldest son to Timothy Dwight III, a farmer and merchant. Being a young age he was highly intellectual, started attending Yale at thirteen years of age. He was married March 3, 1777 to Mary Woolsey whom they had eight sons, and was the grandson of preacher Jonathan Edwards. In 1769 he graduated from Yale with very high honors, and during the year of 177l earned his license for preaching. And soon afterwards the united states congress appointed him chaplain of the Connecticut Continental Brigade under General Parson. And was said that his sermons and songs of the war were an inspiration to the troops, the most well known one being know as "Columbia". He had to return after the death of his father. He then published during the year 1785, his 11 volume Conquest of Canaan the first epic poem ever to be produced within america. He was elected the eight president for the college of Yale after the death of Ezra Stiles, he served this position from 1795 until his death in 1817. In which during that time he did remarkable work with the quality and expansion of the Yale institute, faculty and his influences on the students there were very significant. He was by far a very prominent religious leader, political leader and one of the most prolific writers of the time. He passed away from prostate cancer.
