On August 17, 2011 God dispatched an angel to the Chester County Hospital to bring his daughter Ruth Ann McKim Bowers of West Chester, formerly of Avondale, PA, home to be with him.
Born August 17, 1942 at home in Chatham, PA to the late Harry Earl and Frances Mae Smith McKim. She was baptized at Christ Temple in Kennett Square, PA. Ruth Ann attended school in the Avon Grove School District, graduating in 1960, where she was a member of the Varsity Club lettering in field hockey, softball and basketball. She also attended the University of Pennsylvania and Delaware Technical and Community College.
She was employed at Lincoln University, Church of the Advent in Kennett Square, Avon Grove School District, State of Delaware, First Chicago Bank, retiring from Radnor Township School District in 2008.
Ruth Ann, affectionately called "Momma Ruse" by her Pastor, was a faithful member of Highway Gospel Community Temple for 20 years. She was an active member of the Missionary Board (Former President), Hospitality Committee, Kitchen Committee, Secretary of Sunday School, member of ICEA Region II Children's Ministry Staff, Greater Pennsylvania State Council Christian Education Ministry Staff, and Treasurer of the Bookmarkers Club of West Chester, PA.
Ruth Ann was an avid Facebooker, loved crossword puzzles, Tetris, computer games, an avid reader, and the unofficial Jeopardy champ. Most of all, Ruth Ann loved spending time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her five children: Stephanie P. Bowers-Hendrickson (Douglas) of New Haven, CT, Robert L. Bowers, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Robin L. Austin (Curtis) of West Chester, PA, Anthony W. Bowers (Noelia) of Newark, DE, Aaron M. Bowers (Trina) of Chicago, IL, and was preceded in death by a son, T. Scott Bowers.
She will be sorely missed by her 14 grandchildren: Shaina D. Baugh (Damiean), Marquise R. Battin, Stacia K. Bowers, La Quan M. Bowers, La Marr S. Bowers, Kera N. Batttin, Jordan M. S. Bowers, Taylor C. Austin, Ashley N. Bowers, Alicia M. Bowers, Jade N. Bowers, Arrick J. Wise, Julio A. Rodriquez and Destiny F. Martinez; and four great grandchildren: Zamaya Ann-Louise Bowers, Deshawn Hamer, Rahsaan Battin, and Taijah Curry.
Ruth Ann is survived by six siblings: Elizabeth McKim Baker, Anna McKim Anderson, Robert S. McKim, William T. McKim, E. Richard McKim, Gerald S. McKim; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, F. Dorothy McKim and Eva McKim Kelley, and one brother, Harold McKim.
