John was the son on Alexander McKee Anderson and Esther Ann Pollard. You can find him on the English censuses, living with his family in Ashton-Under-Lyne.

In early 1897, John marries Anne Ellen Doran. John and Anne have ten children; however, only two live to adulthood. Their sons, Edward and Norman, are listed as surviving in John's obituary. The Anderson family came to Maine in the mid 1900s. John arrived in Halifax, Nova Soctia in March 1904 aboard the "Canada." His occupation is listed as barber. Anne (Annie) and Edward followed in 1905. John and his family were joining his mother and his older brother Joseph's family.

John worked as a machinist for many years in the Saco-Lowell shops. He was forced to give up work the last few months of his life because of his ill health. He was suffering from heart trouble.

John was a member of Biddeford council, Knights of Columbus, and was active in St. Mary's parish.

At the time of his death, John was living a 6 Pool Street, Biddeford with his family. He died at his home at about age 52.

The obituary lists the following survivors: a widow and two sons, Edward and Norman, all of this city. Norman is noted as a student at Biddeford high school and a prominent athlete.

John's funeral was held at 8:30 a.m. at St. Mary's church.
