Funeral services will be held at the Calvary United Methodist Church of Bismarck on Saturday August 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.
Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of McClusky on Friday August 19 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the McClusky City Cemetery. Floyd was born February 11, 1927 at Goodrich, ND and was the son of John and Martha (Schmidt) Ahl and grew up in the Denhoff area. As a young man he worked on his father's farm. He also worked for area farmers. Floyd married Delores Blumhagen on September 16, 1950 in McClusky. They lived and farmed north of Pickardville before moving to the John Davis Ranch south of Denhoff. They moved into McClusky in 1972. He then worked on the McClusky Canal and for Swingen Construction during the 1980's. Floyd also worked as a custodian at the Sheridan County Court House and for the City of McClusky before retiring. They moved to Bismarck in 2008. Floyd was a member of the United Methodist Church of McClusky where he served as head usher for many years. He had been currently attending Calvary United Methodist Church in Bismarck. Floyd enjoyed working with horses, wood working and gardening.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Delores of Bismarck; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Clarence Mertz and Linda and Curtis Mertz all of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Rob (Crystal) Mertz of Bismarck, Raynell Mertz of Fargo, Shayne (Alisha) Mertz of Bismarck; Alisa (Colton) Schulz of Bismarck; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mertz, Kaylee Mertz, Aaliya Mertz, Serena Mertz, Kyler Schulz; sister, Ruby Leabig of Oakland, CA; two half sisters, Peggy Weible of Minot, Betty Dockter of McClusky; three step-brothers, Merle Zumbaum of Anoka, MN, Edward Zumbaum of Minot, ND, Gary Zumbaum of Montana.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Ida Ahl; three infant sisters; two step-brothers, Lester Zumbaum and Dewaine Zumbaum.
