Edwin L. Abney, 86, of S. Twelfth St., Springfield, died at 5 p.m., Monday, at St. John's hospital, where he had been a medical patient for two days. Mr. Abney had been in failing health for two years. He was born near Magnolia, Ky., and came to Illinois about 60 years ago, living in Sangamon and Christian counties. For the last 23 years, Mr. Abney had lived in Springfield, making his home with Mr. and Mrs. James Brown for the last 12 years. Mrs. Brown is a niece of Mr. Abney. Mr. Abney had been employed as a watchman at Park Sherman Co., the C. & I. M. railroad, Glisson Auto Co., and the last 10 years was janitor at First National bank. On Oct. 25, 1894, he was married to Daisy Conner, who died about a year ago. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Lewis, Magnolia, Ky.; Mrs. Dee Boggs, city, and Mrs. Ella Sporeleder, Waverly. The body is at the Fishburn and Murphy funeral home, Morrisonville, and will be returned to the Ellinger & Kunz funeral home, Springfield.
