Alexander Stuart Jones, 85, of 501 1/2 Hanover St. died Friday at his home. He had been clerk of the Fredericksburg School Board for more than 30 years at his retirement in 1962.

Mr. Jones was the son of the late Emma Bewan (Bevan) Cunningham and C. W. Jones was raised at Elmhurst, his father's farm just outside of Fredericksburg. He was the husband of the late Laviolette Payne Jones.

He was in partnership for many years with his father in a dry goods store know(n) as C. W. Jones and son. He also served on the Fredericksburg Milk Board. He was a retired civilian employe at Quantico where he worked as an accountant.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Van Valzah Jr. of King George; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the City Cemetery.
