Son of Marvin Moon, Sr. and Alice Kate Elder Moon was born in Dec. of 1914 in Gainesville, Georgia. The family moved to College Park, GA immediately after his birth and they became members of Laster Chapel U.M.C. Marvin received his education from College Park Elementary and later graduated from Clark University High School in 1932. He later received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University) in 1936. After graduation he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he worked for Bell Motors. Marvin later returned to College Park and operated a sandwich shop until he was drafted into the armed services during World War II. He did his basic training at Camp Lee in Virginia and became a sharp shooter on the rifle range. Marvin served in the ETO overseas and did tours of duty in England, France, Germany and Luxembourg. He soon attained the rank of Technical Sergeant, fluent in French and knowledgeable in German. While in the armed services Marvin served with the 3420 Ordinance Maintenance Company. During World War II he earned three medals: the American Theater Ribbon EAMET, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. Following the war, Marvin lived in Atlanta and was employed by the United States Postal Service until his retirement. He later became acquainted with Catherine Jinks; the mother of four children and they were married in 1960. Marvin and his wife were members of Laster Chapel U.M.C. and later became faithful members of Atlanta's Ben Hill U.M.C. Marvin Moon departed this life in Atlanta on May 2, 1996.
