U.S. Congressman. He attended St. Joseph’s College and then engaged in business as an insurance broker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During World War II, he served as a Private in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps. After the war, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth Congress, serving 1945-47, elected to the Eighty-first Congress and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving from 1949 until his death at age 53. His son was Congressman William J. Green III.
