EAST GREENWICH --- Edwin T. "Ned" Allaby, 86, of 5300 Post Rd. died Sunday at Rhode Island Hospital after a one-month illness. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth E. (Haven) Weindell-Allaby. He was also the husband of the late Hope E. (Swift) Allaby.

Born in Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada, a son of the late James T. and Augusta (Mutch) Allaby, he lived in East Greenwich for 10 years. He formerly lived in North Kingstown.

Mr. Allaby was co-owner of the former Allaby & Essex Grocery Store, North Kingstown. He later was a meatcutter for area stores for 15 years before retiring in 1975. He was a deacon, a former moderator and adult Bible class teacher at Quidnessett Baptist Church, North Kingstown. He was a former fire commissioner in North Kingstown.

He leaves two sons, the Rev. Stanley R. Allaby of Fairfield, Conn., and E. Emerson Allaby of North Kingstown; a sister, Lelia Bettle of Brunswick, Maine; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Quidnessett Baptist Church, Post Road. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
