Aberdeen resident Velma Nell Flowers passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. She was 80. Velma was born September 23, 1930 in Rainier, WA to Ellis and Nellie (Needham) Schimelpfenig. Velma was raised in Lebanon, Oregon and moved to Aberdeen in 1943 where she attended Weatherwax High School.
On March 2, 1946 Velma married Ralph Flowers in Aberdeen. He passed away April 11, 2004.

Velma attended several area churches over the years. She conducted nursing home services, jail services and was president of Women's Aglow group. Velma enjoyed cooking, clamming, family gatherings, beach trips and travel. She had traveled to Mexico, the Holy Land, Germany, Denmark, Hungary, Austria, Hawaii and Canada.

Velma is survived by two daughters, Sylvan Celich of Dallas, Oregon, Jacky Flowers of Aberdeen, WA, and a granddaughter, Camille Gonzalez-Flowers. She is also survived by 2 boys from Mexico that she had sponsored, Primitivo and Silvino Lara. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph and her three brothers, Raymond, Arthur and Gordon Schimelpfenig and two sisters, Ruth Balow and Marion Jones.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel at Harrison Family Mortuary, 311 W. Market St., Aberdeen. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 10th at Wynooche Cemetery in Montesano with a reception following at the First Baptist Church in Montesano located at 303 W. Pioneer.

Donations in memory of Velma are suggested to the Union Gospel Mission, Friendship House, Boys Town or Gideon's.
