US Congressman. Born in Detroit, he enlisted in the Army for the Spanish-American War, serving as a Private in the Seventh Cavalry Regiment, and seeing action in Cuba and the Philippines. Sosnowski remained on active duty after the war, serving at West Point until his 1906 discharge. He then returned to Detroit, where he became a real estate broker. Sosnowski also served in the Michigan National Guard, receiving a commission, attaining the rank of Captain and Adjutant of the Thirty-first Regiment, and serving on the Mexican border in 1916. From 1918 to 1924 Sosnowski served as Chairman of Detroit's Board of Water Commissioners. In 1924 he was the successful Republican nominee for the US House of Representatives, defeating incumbent Democrat Robert H. Clancy and serving one term, 1925 to 1927. In 1926 Clancy switched parties and defeated Sosnowski in the Republican primary, with Sosnowski then returning to his real estate business. He continued attempting to return to the US House, running unsuccessfully in 1928, 1930, 1932, 1934, 1936, 1938, 1942, 1944, and 1946. In 1931 he was an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican nomination for Mayor of Detroit. Sosnowski was a Delegate to the Republican National Conventions of 1932, 1936, 1940, and 1944, and was a Republican presidential elector in 1940. In 1947 he became a Hearing Examiner for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, serving until 1951. Sosnowski ran unsuccessfully for Congress for the final time in 1952, afterwards living in retirement until his death in Detroit.
