Retired Supervisor

Brandon - Bobbye T. Gatewood, 70, a retired supervisor and operator, died of cancer Thursday at home.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Ott & Lee Funeral Home with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gatewood was a native of Scott County and lived in Jackson and Brandon. She worked for 40 years for South Central Bell in Jackson and retired in 1991. She trained the first black operator and the first male operator in Jackson during her career. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jackson, having served as Grand Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include sons Toby Gatewood of Pelahatchie and Jeffrey Gatewood of Brandon; sister, Alma Fleming of Grenada; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Mary Ann Drive, Brandon, MS 39042.
