Mary Elizabeth Miles Alexander, 80, of Aidan Drive, Orange, Virginia, died at her residence on Tuesday, August 2, 2011.

She was born on January 8, 1931, in Orange, Virginia, the daughter of the late James Philip Miles Sr. and Mary Sudie Long Miles. She was also predeceased by her husband, Henry W. Alexander Sr.

She is survived by six daughters, Sharon Menefee of Richmond, Jennifer Jackson and husband, Frank, of Culpeper, Sonya Ford and husband, Richard, of Fredericksburg, Marilyn Alexander, Sheila Lewis and Jacqueline Alexander, all of Orange; three sons, Henry Alexander and wife, Renata, of Orange, Craig Alexander and wife, Norma, of Lorton, and William Alexander and wife, Teresa, of Gordonsville; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren aunt, Florence Braxton of Orange; sister-in-law, Roselyn Miles of Orange; and a brother-in-law, William Alexander and wife, Delores, of Maryland.

She was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church of Orange where she was on the church aid committee, the senior choir, the usher board, and the Lelia Scott Thomas Scholarship Fund. She was also a member of the Democratic Party Committee, the Orange County NAACP, the Orange County visitors bureau, the Order of the Eastern Star, and an invited guest of the Fallen Police Officers Memorial Services.

A funeral service was held Saturday, August 6, 2011, at the Orange Assembly of God Church with interment to follow at the Westview Cemetery in Orange. Pastor Tommy Bailey officiated.

Memorial contributions made be made to the American Cancer Society , 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

The family received friends Friday, August 5, 2011, at the Preddy Funeral Home, 250 West Main Street, Orange, VA 22960.
