Jennie Fowler Services Held
Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie C. Fowler, 83, for over fifty years a resident of the Chatham-Ghent area, were held Monday afternoon at Hudson. REv. Donald Baird, pastor of the Philmont Reformed Church, officiated, and burial was in Mellenville Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Fowler died last Friday at Columbia Memorial Hospital, after an illness of two weeks. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Fowler, Ghent Farmer, and following his death - five years ago, she had made her home on Hudson Avenue, Chatham.
Jennie C. Becker Fowler was born January 30, 1877 at Philmont, the daughter of the late Galus T. and Mary Ida Harder Becker. The families of both parents were among the early settlers in Columbia County, their ancestral lines being identified with communities that are now Harlemville, Hillsdale, Philmont and Ghent.
Her early life was spend in Philmont and she worked asa dressmaker until her marriage. When Mr. Fowler retired they moved to Ghent where they lived 10 years. Mr. Fowler died in 1955.
For many years Mrs. Fowler was a member of the Mellenville Reformed CHurch, and later became associated with the Philmont Reformed Church where she was recently honored as one of its 50 year members.
Surviving is a niece, Mrs. Laura J. Fleming, of Hudson.
