Entered service on May18,1861 as a Captain. He was promoted to Major of the 29th Mass. Vol. He was then assigned to the 14th N.Y. Heavy Artillary in June 1864. Fought in the battles of Richmond, Vicksburg, Knoxville and Petersburg. He was killed by an artillary shell in the battle of Petersberg, VA. at age 34.
