Memorial to Field Marshall Francis Lord Grenfell, PC GCB GCMG, Colonel Commandant the King's Royal Rifle Corps, born Swansea, son of Pascoe St Leger Grenfell and Catherine Grenfell. Educated at Milton Abbas, Dorset and in 1859 obtained a commission in the 3rd Btn 60th Rifles subsequently serving in the Cape Frontier and Zulu wars, Egypt where he became the Sidar of that country's army in 1885. He was knighted in 1885 and promoted Major General in 1889 and commanded forces in Suakim and Toski, Sudan. He became the governor of Malta in 1899.

He died on 27th January 1925 and is buried at Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
