Walter was born to Katherine (Allen) and Walter Alden of Ireland.
He married Mary Elizabeth Morf on November 13, 1888 at the Catholic Church of Seattle. Together they had 11 children: Joseph, Kathryne, Helen Mary, Gertrude Agnes, their first set of twins Milton and Walter, Gerard and their second set of twins Patricia and Alyce.
In 1889 he and Mary lived in King County, Washington Territory; they lived in Seattle on Mary Avenue in the 1890's. Throughout the 1890's Walter worked as a Contractor.
By 1900 the family was settled in Montana with the oldest three kids in boarding school and the youngest three at home. Around 1904 the family returned to Washington and were living in Spokane where by 1910 they had settled into their home on Addison Street in Spokane.
In 1910 Walter was a Conductor on the Railroad; it is unknown if the move to Montana and/or to Spokane were due to the railroad. In 1910 Walter was recorded in the Census twice, once with his family in Spokane and the other in Lyle Gap, Oregon with his son Joseph. I surmise that they split their time between the two places due to their jobs with the railroad.
Walter died the morning of May 14, 1917; the cause of death, according to an autopsy, was heart trouble.

No marker was purchased or installed according to cemetery records. Buried between Ryan and Morf (who also have no marker). Bridget Morf is Walter's mother in law.
