Howard D. Spurling, 69, pastor of Day Creek Free Methodist Church died Sunday, November 7th at the United General Hospital. He was born in Everett, Washington on July 14th, 1907, the 5th of seven sons of William and Emily Spurling.He moved to Skagit Valley at an early age and attended school at Hamilton and Sedro-Woolley.

On April 18, 1926, he was married to Myrtle Bishop in Everett. The family home was established in Sedro-Woolley on Reed Street.

Mr. Spurling was employed at the Skagit Corporation where he was a tool and die maker. He began his ministerial duties at the Day Creek Free Methodist Church and also served as pastor at Natioal, Washington, Gandview, Washingtonm Kamploops,B.C., and in 1956 returned to the Day Creek Church. His wife, Myrtle continues their ministry there. Mr. Spurling was an Elder in the Pacific Northwest Conference and a long time member of the Sedro-Woolley Free Methodist church. He had also been a member of the Machinist Union.

Mr. Spurling is survived by his wife Myrtle at the family home, one son Jim Spurling Urbana, IN, three daughters, Donna Swanberg, Seattle, Pat Lindstrom, San Jose, California and Sherry Bode, Glendora, California. Also one brother Ernest Spurling, Sedro-Woolley and eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. One son Robert preceeded him in death in June.

Funeral services will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Free Methodist Church on Wednesday (today) November 10th at 130 p.m. Interment will be in the Sedro-Woolley Cemetery.

Rembrances may be sent to the Day Creek Free Methodist Memorial Fund.
