Daughter of Elijah Malachi Evans and Willa Milly Fields. Sister to Mr. David C. Evans, Lucinda Evans, Mr. Tilman H. Evans, Mr. George Washington Evans, Mr. John Holbert Evans, Anna Evans, Mr. Joseph Evans, Mr. James Henry Evans, and Mr. Levi Evans. Half sister to Hannah Evans, Sarah Evans, Elizabeth Evans, Emelia "Milly" Evans, Parlina Evans, and Susan Anna Ellen Evans.

Mary married George Wesley Cooper about 1861 in Campbell County, Tennessee. Together they had 8 children as follows: Mr. Henry Elijah Cooper, Emily Catherine Cooper, Parlia "Parley" Cooper Gross Wilson, Lucy Ann Cooper Taylor Howard, Mr. James Alvis Cooper, Mr. Elvin Levi Cooper, Rebecca A. Cooper Evans Hill, and Malla "Mallie" Cooper Roark.
