Gerald E. Ambeau, 79, of East Hartford, loving husband of Sharon Y. (Cathcart) Ambeau, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday (July 17, 2011).

Born in Cromwell on August 16, 1931, a son of the late Gerald E. and Bessie (Scranton) Ambeau, he had resided in East Hartford for over thirty-two years.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Aetna Insurance Company for many years as a truck driver. Gerald was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose-Chapter # 1477, East Hartford, and the VFW Post #2083, East Hartford. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, watching wrestling, learning about history, and playing cards with family and the seniors.

Besides his beloved wife, Sharon, Gerald is survived by a step-daughter, Debra Magliocco and her husband, Corrado, and their two children, Jessica and Gino Magliocco, all of Hebron; four sisters, Evelyn Bennett and her husband, Kenneth, of Colchester, Dolores Langer of Brockton, MA, Judith Abbate and her husband, Robert, of Melbourne, FL, Florence Lewis and her husband, Nate, of Norwich; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest Ambeau of Naples, FL, Harold Ambeau of New Jersey, and Paul Ambeau of Oregon; a sister, Ruth Adams of Danielson; and four other siblings.

A memorial service to celebrate Gerald's life will be held on Wednesday (July 20, 2011) at 11:00 a.m. at the D'esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford.
Burial with full military honors accorded will follow at Veteran's Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
