Col. Marsden V. Bates of Pittsburg, California, a former Mexico boy, died of a heart attack on Wednesday, February 23rd.
Marsden graduated from Mexico High School in 1918 and joined the Marines in World War I. He was commander of units in Mid-East, Japan and this Country during the recent war where he became a colonel.
He had a military funeral and was buried in Arlington Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Belle and daughter Betty Ann, also his father and step-mother in Lincoln, Mich., a half brother, Charles in California, an aunt Mrs. Stanley Wilkinson in Detroit, Michigan , also an uncle Fred Bates of Mexico whom he visited from time to time.
