AGED RESIDENT OF JOHNSON COUNTY DIES
Funeral of Mrs. Harney Held In St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford Monday
Mrs. William Harney, a lifelong resident of Oxford community passed away early Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mildred, with whom she had been living for the past few years. She had attained the age of 83. Mrs. Harney was the former Jane Harrold and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Harrold who were pioneer residents of Johnson county.
Her marriage to William Harney took place August 31, 1890. All her life was spent on a farm south of Oxford. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member also of the Altar and Rosary society of St. Mary's church at Oxford. Her husband and one daughter, Edna, preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters, who are Mrs. Mildred Tomash of Oxford, Mrs. James Bell of Lone Tree, and Mrs. Elmer Hanson of Parnell, and by four sons. The sons are Thomas of Davenport, William of Oxford, Anthony of Holbrook and Ambrose of Iowa City. Her grandchildren number twenty eight and her great grandchildren five, all of whom survive her. Her funeral was held in St. Mary's church at Oxford, Monday at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Father P. J. Ryan officiated. Father Brown of Parnell and Father Morrissey of Holbrook were present in the sanctuary. Interment was in Mt. Calvary cemetery at Oxford. The pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased. They were William and Robert Harney of Oxford, Francis and Vincent Harney of Iowa City, Ralph Bell of Lone Tree and Eugene Hanson of Parnell.
