Ms. McMahan moved to California where she worked at the Valley News in Van Nuys for more than 23 years. During that time she won second place in a California Newspaper Publishers writing contest, was listed in Who's Who of Women in Communications and was among the first group of women to be initiated into the Los Angeles chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, National Journalism Society.
Ms. Veta McMahan established this scholarship in 1983 to benefit her alma mater upon her death. She died in 1994.
