Annie Hodson Ashby died Tuesday afternoon after an illness of several months. Born in England, she had lived in Columbia for 39 years. She was the widow of Samuel J. Ashby, who was a gardener at the State House and the Governor's Mansion for a number of years. She was a member of the Washington Street Methodist Church.

She is survived by two brothers, T. E. Onyett and H. H. Onyett, both of England, and one nephew, A. E. Onyett of Columbia.
