Major League Baseball Player. Played Major League baseball as an outfielder for eight seasons (1957, 1960 to 1966) with the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, and San Francisco Giants. Originally signed by scout Don McShane on June 26, 1954 as an amateur free agent for the Philadelphia Phillies, he was a left-handed hitter with outstanding speed, but was not much of a threat in the hitting department, usually having trouble with curves ball and other breaking pitches. Traded by the St. Louis Cardinals with Alex Grammas to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Bobby Smith and Daryl Robertson on June 5, 1962, he enjoyed his best season average-wise, hitting .282 in a platoon role for the Cubs. His best year for home runs and RBI's came in 1965 when he hit 6 (half of his career homers) and drove in 34. In that year, he was the starting center fielder for the Cubs for most of the season. He was traded by Chicago along with Lindy McDaniel to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Randy Hundley and Bill Hands on December 2, 1965. The trade turned out to be a decent one for both clubs, the Cubs getting an everyday regular catcher in Hundley, and the Giants getting a relief specialist in McDaniel. 1966 proved to be Don Landrum's final year in the Major Leagues. After retiring from baseball he worked in various businesses in East Contra Costa County California. Over the course of his career, he had a lifetime average of .234 in 456 League games, scoring 151 runs on 272 hits with 12 homeruns and 75 RBI and 36 stolen bases.
