US Congressman. Moving to California in 1849, he engaged in mining and edited the San Jose "Tribune" from 1855 to 1859. Admitted to the California bar in 1859, he practiced law in Sacramento and served in the California State Assembly. In 1862 he moved to Hamilton, Nevada, where he resumed the practice of law. He was elected to represent Nevada as an at-large delegate, serving from 1871 to 1875. He later practiced law in Denver, Colorado.
