John Edward Hall was the son of Levi Hall and Cordelia "Della" Alkire who were married February 23, 1868 in Lewis County.

In 1870 Levi and Cordelia were living with his parents in Holly, Webster County. John was identified as James J Hall, age 1.

John's mother Cordelia died sometime after the birth of Henry Alfred in 1875. Father Levi then married Virginia Catherine Schrader.

In 1880 the family was living in Holly in 1880. Father Levi was a farmer.

John married Melcena Clutter on October 13, 1891 in Webster County. He gave his name as John E Hall, Jr. - perhaps because his grandfather was also John E?

In 1900 John and Melcena were living in Holly with children Emory Albert and Cordelia E. John was a farmer. Melcina reported that she was the mother of 5 children, 2 were living. (George F or R was born November 18, 1893 and died December 21, 1893 of croup. Allen born 1897. Levi M born 1899, died Sept 1899 of diphtheria aged 3 months )

In 1910 John and Melcena were living in Holly on Elk River Road. John listed his occupation as farmer. 4 more children had been added to the family: John E, Henry Alpha, Martha E and Lela L. The family of James and Elizabeth Salisbury were boarding with them.

Son Gilbert Raymond was born in September of 1910 and George was born about 1911. Laura May was born in 1914 William Thomas was born in 1918.

Melcena died sometime between 1918 when son William was born and 1920 as John was boarding with James Martin in Holly for that census report. He was listed as a widower and employed at a lumber mill.

John now 57 married Luvena Amanda Perkins, 23, on June 18, 1927 in Webster County.

In 1930 John and Luvena were living in Holly where John had returned to farming. Luvena was identified as Mandy. Also in the household were "Willie" (William Thomas), age 12 and Betty, 1.

In 1940 John and Luvena were living in Holly with children Betty and Milford Leslie as well as Luvena's uncle Isaac Perkins.

The informant on John's death record was Mrs. Vena Perkins Hall.
