Sarah Sutherland Dies at Age of 73 Years from Attack of Heart Failure
Miss Sarah Naomi Sutherland, age 73, one of the famous Seven Sutherland Sisters, noted for their long and beautiful hair reaching to the ground, died last night at the family homestead on the Ridge road in the town of Cambria after a long Illness. Heart failure caused death. Dr. Harvey Bodamar, who had been attending the woman, issued the certificate.
Four of the Sutherland Sisters are now dead. The three remaining are Grace, Dora and Mary Sutherland.
Mrs. Isabella Sutherland Castlemaine Swain died on December 9, 1914. She was 50 years of age at the time. The other two, Mrs. Naomi Sutherland Bailey and Victoria Sutherland, died some years before.
The Sutherland Sisters were daughters of a farmer living on the Ridge road and they became nationally famous. They toured with the Barnum and Bailey circus for years as one of the feature attractions, exhibiting their hair to millions of people.
Besides the three living sisters, the decedent leaves one nephew, Harry Sutherland Bailey of Buffalo and one niece, Mrs. Naomi Sutherland Bailey Booth of Los Angeles.
