FRANK C. FOLKS, M. D., mayor of Waycross, Ga., was born in Jefferson County, Ga., October 13, 1852. His father, Dr. William B. Folks, was for years a very active man, both professionally and socially in southwest Georgia. He was born in Jefferson County, November 6, 1830, and was one of the founders of the town of Waycross. He graduated in medicine from the Savannah Medical College when a young man. He was public spirited and very liberal to the poor, and his name was almost worshiped in many homes where he practiced. He was elected to the State senate in 1879-80 and served several years. He served through the Confederate army as surgeon from 1861 to 1865. His wife, Mary Jefferson Miller, was born in Jefferson County, Ga., March 12, 1830, and is still living.

Dr. Frank C. is the second of five children born to his parents. He was reared in Ware County, and was educated in the common schools. In 1874 he commenced the study of medicine with his father and graduated in medicine from the Savannah Medical College in 1876. He practiced in Homerville until 1878, thence in Jasper, Fla. And in 1880 moved to Waycross, where he has since been in active practice. He has been for time physician for the Savannah, Florida & Western Railroad. He is a member of the F. and A. M., I. O. O. F., the Knights of Pythias and the Methodist Church. In August, 1877, he was married to Miss Emma A., daughter of Judge Jonathan L. and Susan (Hargrove) Morgan. To this union have been born five children, of whom Ross, Mabel and Frankie are living. He has recently been nominated (August, 1888) to the State senate, and will be elected, as a nomination in his district is equal to an election.
