James born 1 Jan 1911 in St David, Cochise, AZ to Lyle Vernon Tilton & Ethel Reed Tilton. We believe that he was named Emmett Fred Tilton. He had 1 sister Ethel LaVerne Tilton (Byrum). His mother called him Emmett as did all of the Tilton side of the family. Shortly after he was born his mother divorced his father and moved with James Emmett & LaVerne to Canada. Neither James or LaVerne knew about or saw their father again. When James was older and getting high security clearance for his job with Boing it was found out that he wasn't really James Emmett Armstrong but James Emmett Tilton. As he had 5 children by then he felt it would be easier to change his name to Armstrong than change 5 children and a wife to Tilton. He visited St David and found he had many 1/2 brothes and sisters, a step mother and many aunts and uncles he never knew about. He quickly grew to love the Tiltons. James Emmett married Buela Marion Pople 7 Jan 1933 in Woodland, Cowlitz, WA. They had 1 daughter, Marion Armstrong Davis. They also had 4 boys. They lived for a time in Kelso WA but work took him to the Seattle area where he stayed until his death. James Emmett was loved by his whole family and he especially injoyed his grandchildren. He kept a coffee can full of change. On each grandchilds birthday they were allowed to take one handfull of coins out of the coffee can. They really enjoyed trying to see how much they could get in a handfull.
