Students Attend Allen Funeral
McAllen, March 12. - Funeral services for Joe Allen, 17-year-old school boy who was drowned in the Rio Grande south of McAllen, Saturday night, were held at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen, Friday at 10 a.m. Allen, while trying to swim the river with two companions, Glenn Moore and Charles Reese, became exhausted and was drowned before the other boys could aid him.
Services were held at the Kreidler chapel, with classes in the McAllen senior high school dismissed so that the students might attend the service in a body. Allen was a prominent student and athlete.
The Rev. J. W. Hassell, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, was in charge of services and interments was made in the Roselawn cemetery in McAllen.
Pallbearers were Ernest Richmond, Billy Paul Wakefield, Charles Reese, Glenn Moore, I. B. McGee, Charles Wilcott, Roscoe Maris and Billy Overstreet, all students at the McAllen high school.
Surviviors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Allen of McAllen; Mrs. W. A. Robinson of McAllen; Mrs. Steve Reacock, Edinburg and Mrs. W. M. Tinkler of Galveston.
